Adjustment or Massage, Which First?

I get this question a lot.  The short answer is that if you’re going to do both on the same day, get adjusted first.  Conventional thinking says that you should have a massage first so that you are relaxed for your adjustment.  If you have a good chiropractor, he doesn’t need your help this way.

The reason to get adjusted prior to your massage is so that you get greater benefit from your massage.  An adjustment relaxes your nervous system and reduces the tone in the area surrounding the adjustment.  Your therapist will then be able to do her work more efficiently.  If you get a massage without the benefit of an adjustment in an area that needs one, the tension will return shortly.  Have you noticed that?
