Garage Clean-up

I re-arranged my garage on the last long weekend.  I took everything out of the cabinets, all the tools, screws, various hardware, fishing gear, everything, and put it all on the floor in the middle of garage.  The goal was to make things more accessible and efficient.  It was a daunting task and my wife’s idea.

It was a great idea though and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it.  I realized that I was enjoying it because it was the only thing I was focused on.  I knew I had plenty of time to finish so there was no need to rush.  I wasn’t concerned about a deadline and knew that if I didn’t finish Saturday, I could get back at it Sunday afternoon.  Because I wasn’t rushing I could also do it exactly the way I wanted to and sometimes that required a bit of thinking time to solve the problem of fitting everything back into a good place.  In the end it turned out great.

I think if I could approach life the way I did the garage, it would be even more enjoyable.  Take my time, don’t rush, and simply be very present to what I happen to be working on at the moment.

What do you think, how often do you find yourself doing one thing but thinking about the next?
