The Best Changes

Like many others, I like to use this time of year as an opportunity to review the previous year and plan for the next. For me, most of the changes I’ve made have spawned naturally from things I’m learning. I thought I would share a few of the changes I’ve made along the way that have had the most impact as well as a couple of strategies for effective change.

Below are a few things to keep in mind as you seek to make your life better:

– Become really clear about why you want to change and exactly the result you want.
– Don’t be a hero; be certain you’re being realistic about what you are able to do.
– Dig deep. Many times the result you want can only be achieved by changing things a few layers down.
– Many of the best changes involve letting go of behaviours rather than adding new habits.

Here are some of the best changes I’ve made:

Simplified my life – There was a time when I had too much going on and I needed more room. So I quit a bunch of things. You have to get to the point once in a while where you literally have nothing to do!

Simplified Money – Isn’t money one of the biggest stressors around? We fixed the things that were bothering us about money and it’s much more doable than you’d think. See Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makeover” for practical advice.

Learned how to eat Healthy – This was last year’s change and I actually stumbled upon it by accident. Knowing that it was something that I really needed to do, I researched the heck out of it and made the change. It’s one of the best things I’ve done for my own health. See low carb eating for more information.

What’s your biggest problem and how are you going to fix it? There really are very few problems that an intelligent person like you could not solve if you put your mind to it!
