The Biggest Mistake

As I wrote about recently in my series on the pillars of health, there are a number of key factors affecting your health.  But there is one lifestyle habit that can undercut all of them; BUSYNESS.  I see it time and time again.  When people over extend themselves they get in all kinds of health trouble.  Think of it.  What shortcuts do you take when you’re too busy?


–  Fast-food meals (messes up your nutrition)

–  Not enough sleep (robs you of rest)

–  No time together (strained relationships)

–  Increased stress (puts your nervous system into high alert)


None of these are good for you!  Most of us need to slow down and slow down considerably.  It’s really not worth it.  If you keep up at the pace you’re on, what kind of shape will your life be in in 20 years?  Evaluate your life and decide what is most important to you and then craft how you do your life to make that happen.  You really can do it.


A great resource for these kind of changes is the book, “The Power of Full Engagement” by Tim Loehr and Tony Shwartz.  It will help you redesign your life so that all you do will support how you want to be.  Another helpful book is “Getting Things Done” by David Allen.  He has articulated the best system I’ve ever seen for becoming highly productive and creative.


If your life feels out of control, I strongly encourage you correct the huge mistake of being too busy.  Your kids and your spouse want you whole, healthy and happy.
