The Safety Pin Cycle

In the old days a simple safety pin was used to explain chiropractic.  The metaphor has lost favor as we have become more sophisticated but it’s worth revisiting because it really captures the essence of the profound power of chiropractic.

Imagine a safety pin.  On one end is the head which represents the brain and on the other is the coiled wire which represents a body cell.  The foundational truth of health is that your brain and your body need to talk clearly with one another.   The communication needs to go both ways.  Your body is continually feeding information to your brain even as it receives messages from your brain.  And your brain does likewise.

Now imagine that the safety pin is open.  That represents the lost communication or what chiropractors call a subluxation.  A subluxation is when a bone is out of place or not moving properly such that there is nervous system interference that adversely affects your health.  Adjustments close the safety pin, restore communication and allow for your body to heal.  It’s as simple as that.

It’s not really that simple but you get the big idea.
